What is an IFS-Informed EMDR Intensive?
When healing has enough time, something different becomes possible.
Most trauma therapy happens one hour at a time.
You arrive, settle into the room, reconnect with where you left off the week before, begin approaching the deeper work—and then it's time to stop.
The following week, you begin again.
While meaningful healing absolutely can happen in weekly therapy, many people find the process interrupted just as trust develops, protectors begin to soften, or deeper memories become accessible.
An IFS-Informed EMDR Intensive creates a different therapeutic experience.
Instead of spreading the work over months or years, we dedicate multiple consecutive days to creating the continuity, safety, and spaciousness that complex trauma healing often requires.
This is not about working harder.
It's about having enough time.
What is an IFS-Informed EMDR Intensive?
An IFS-Informed EMDR Intensive is a personalized, multi-day therapy experience that integrates:
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
Attachment-informed therapy
Nervous system regulation
Experiential and relational interventions
Rather than focusing on symptom management alone, this approach helps you understand how your internal system has adapted to survive difficult experiences while gently processing the memories, beliefs, emotions, and nervous system responses that continue to shape your life today.
Every intensive is individualized.
There is no rigid protocol or predetermined agenda. Instead, we follow your nervous system, your internal system, and your therapeutic goals while maintaining the structure and safety that effective trauma treatment requires.
How Is an Intensive Different Than Weekly Therapy?
The biggest difference isn't simply more hours.
It's continuity.
Instead of repeatedly stopping and restarting the therapeutic process, an intensive allows us to stay connected to the work.
This often means:
Less time spent catching up each session
More opportunity for protectors to develop trust
Greater continuity during EMDR processing
More time for integration between sessions
Deeper collaboration between your mind, body, emotions, and nervous system
Healing unfolds at the pace of your nervous system—not the clock.
Why We Integrate IFS and EMDR?
EMDR and IFS are each powerful approaches on their own.
Together, they offer something unique.
IFS helps us understand and build relationships with the different parts of you that developed to protect you throughout your life.
Rather than trying to push past anxiety, perfectionism, numbness, people-pleasing, self-criticism, or avoidance, we become curious about their purpose.
These protective parts often hold important wisdom about what has been needed for survival.
As trust develops, EMDR allows us to process the experiences that these parts have been working so hard to protect.
Instead of asking protectors to step aside before they are ready, we work collaboratively with your internal system so healing feels safer, more respectful, and more sustainable.
The goal isn't to eliminate parts.
The goal is to help every part of you carry less burden.
Why Multi-Day Intensives Work?
Trauma healing is rarely linear.
Many people notice that just as they begin feeling emotionally present, regulated, and connected during weekly therapy, the session ends.
An intensive creates space for:
Deeper nervous system regulation
Sustained therapeutic momentum
Greater emotional continuity
More opportunities for corrective relational experiences
Less interruption of the healing process
Time to slow down rather than rush
One of the guiding philosophies of my practice is simple:
Sometimes the greatest therapeutic intervention isn't another technique. Sometimes it's finally having enough time.
Who Is an IFS-Informed EMDR Intensive For?
Intensives may be a good fit if you:
Feel stuck despite years of therapy.
Are ready to process trauma more deeply than weekly sessions allow.
Have completed previous therapy and want focused work around a specific issue.
Live outside the Philadelphia area and want to travel for an immersive healing experience.
Have demanding work or family responsibilities that make weekly therapy difficult to sustain.
Are navigating childhood trauma, complex PTSD, attachment wounds, or developmental trauma.
Are seeking deeper integration after significant life events or previous therapeutic work.
Value immersive, personalized care in a relational, trauma-informed setting.
Who May Not Be a Good Fit?
Intensives are not the right approach for everyone.
Because this work is immersive, it's important that clients have enough stability and support to benefit from the experience.
An intensive may not be appropriate if you are currently experiencing:
Active psychosis
Severe substance dependence that would interfere with treatment
Acute suicidal or homicidal crisis requiring a higher level of care
Significant instability without adequate supports
Medical or psychiatric conditions that make intensive trauma processing unsafe at this time
Readiness is something we determine together through a comprehensive consultation and assessment process.
If an intensive isn't the best fit, I will discuss alternative recommendations and resources whenever possible.
What to Expect?
Every intensive includes three phases:
Preparation
Before we meet, we'll spend time understanding your history, goals, current resources, and readiness. Together we'll design an intensive that reflects your needs rather than following a one-size-fits-all model.
Intensive Therapy
Across multiple consecutive days, we integrate EMDR, IFS, nervous system regulation, attachment-informed interventions, and experiential approaches while pacing the work according to your capacity—not an agenda.
Integration
Healing continues after the intensive ends. We'll develop an integration plan that may include follow-up sessions, collaboration with your ongoing therapist (with your permission), personalized resources, and recommendations to support continued healing.

Not necessarily. Many clients are completely new to one or both approaches. However, it does help if you have some familiarity with one or both of these modalities.

EMDR is an evidence-based psychotherapy for trauma, and intensive EMDR formats have a growing body of research supporting their effectiveness for many individuals. IFS also has an expanding evidence base and offers a valuable framework for understanding protective patterns and fostering internal collaboration. In my practice, these approaches are thoughtfully integrated within a relational, attachment-informed model tailored to each client.

Most clients work with me for 4–5 consecutive days, although recommendations vary depending on your goals, history, and readiness.
